We believe no one should have to face major life-planning decisions alone. Our firm helps individuals and families prepare for the future through estate planning, probate, and elder law services.
We develop plans intended to protect assets, preserve legacies, and pass wealth and wisdom to future generations.
Our team also assists older adults and their families with Medicaid planning and benefit applications related to long-term care. When appropriate, we coordinate with existing financial advisors and accountants to address the different parts of a client’s plan.
Our community relationships can also provide helpful connections when families are exploring long-term care placements or in-home care options.

Joseph Markell
Since 2014, Joseph M. Markell has focused his practice on estate planning, elder law, probate, and trust administration. His work includes Medicaid planning, trust settlements, probate administration, and estate management.
Before establishing Markell Estate Planning & Elder Law, Joe served four years in the United States Army. The discipline and commitment developed during his service continue to influence his legal career.
Joe is also involved in the community and serves on several charitable boards. Outside the office, he enjoys spending time with his wife and their four children in St. Charles County.
Vince Jones
Vince earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with an emphasis in finance from the University of Missouri–Columbia in 2015. He received his Juris Doctor from Saint Louis University School of Law in 2021.
His legal work focuses on probate administration and guardianship and conservatorship proceedings.
Outside the office, Vince enjoys spending time outdoors with his wife and children.
Hon. Curtis Trent
Curtis Trent earned a degree in political science from Missouri State University. He later received his Juris Doctor from Saint Louis University School of Law.
Curtis is an attorney and a Missouri state senator representing District 20. Before joining the Senate, he served six years in the Missouri House of Representatives.
His legal experience includes estate planning and probate. Curtis is also active in the Church of Christ and is a member of the Sons of the American Revolution.
Jennifer Strauss
Jennifer earned a Bachelor of Science from Webster University with an emphasis in paralegal studies.
Before joining the firm, she gained 17 years of experience as a receptionist, legal secretary, and paralegal. Her previous work included medical malpractice and litigation defense.
Outside the office, Jennifer enjoys spending time with her family, making candy, baking, and shopping.
